The Honda Express re-build continues...... Iv just completed spray painting the bike . I decided to change the color to angel blue as I thinks it looks best in this color, while still keeping it in one of its original shades . Im going to be assembling the bike slowly as time permits and more parts arrive .
Is that spray paint or did u spray with a gun?
ReplyDeleteHi there it was done with 2k paint and a spray gun
ReplyDeletewere did you order the parts? any web?
ReplyDeleteI got most of the parts off Ebay , cmsnl.com and treatland.tv , All of them offer very professional service .
DeleteSorry to resurrect this blog post... this is the only blog I've read with extensive body work on the express. What exactly did you do before the paint job? Thanks
ReplyDeleteNo worries, I'm always willing to share advice:
ReplyDeleteFirstly i took photographs off all the decals with a ruler held next to them in various positions for size reference. This came in handy later on when i had the decals printed.
Next i sent off all the parts to the sand blasters for stripping and I had them apply a red etch primer directly after spraying. I live on the coast so I didn't want to leave the bare metal exposed for too long without protection.
Once I collected the parts and brought them home I lightly sanded the parts down and sprayed them with a high build spray filler to fill in the roughness from the sand blasting. Once that dried I sanded the parts down nice and smooth and shot the color coat.
That's a very concise version of what did but my advise to you is to take your time and make sure your prep work is spot on or else any imperfections will show through the color coat.
Let me know if there is anything you were unclear on.
Regards
Andrew Ferguson
Just to add to what iv said. The headlight being plastic did not go off for sand blasting. I merely sanded it down, filled in any small scratches with spot putty , a coat or two of high build primer ( also called ms primer of 2k spray filler) and finally color over that.
Deletehello Andrew , could you let me know where you found all your stickers??
ReplyDeleteHi Rob
ReplyDeleteI used www.clickitandstickit.com. I can highly recommend these guys as these decals are holding up very well to date They were also reproduced accurately using just photographs of the old decals. Are you looking for a full set ?
Where did you find the paint color. I can’t find it anywhere
ReplyDeleteIf you have a sample of the color just go to an automotive paint refinising shop and ask them to match it against your sample.
